Even Republicans Oppose Rauner's Pension Cost Shift
Bipartisan Group of Legislators Oppose Rauner's Sham Budget
Chicago, IL – Bruce Rauner’s unbalanced budget is now even more out of whack after a group of bipartisan legislators signed onto a resolution opposing the failed governor’s idea of dumping state pension payments on local schools and universities.
Sixty Republican and Democratic House members have sponsored or co-sponsored HR 27, calling Rauner’s proposal “financially wrong.” With the pension cost shift becoming dead on arrival, Rauner must propose either more revenue or more cuts to balance his final budget.
“Bruce Rauner has never proposed a balanced budget, and now he wants to unload state pension payments on local school districts to duck responsibility and force a hike in property taxes,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “This failed governor is seeing a strong group of bipartisan legislators standing up against his fiscal mismanagement as another unbalanced budget falls apart.”
