Rickert v. Rauner: Former Comms Chief Sues Governor for Public Release of Emails

FOIA Battle Seeks Emails From First Lady, Top Administration Officials Regarding DoIT, Internet Browsing History, HB 40

Chicago, IL – Diana Rickert is suing Governor Bruce Rauner, her former employer, for the public release of emails from First Lady Diana Rauner, former chief of staff Kristina Rasmussen, and policy chief Michael Lucci regarding the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT), the internet browsing history of state employees, and HB 40.
Rickert made the FOIA requests in September and October 2017, after abruptly leaving her post as Rauner’s deputy chief of staff of communications with only 38 days on the job. The public information requests have since gone unanswered, prompting the lawsuit against her former boss. The Liberty Justice Center, Illinois Policy Institute’s legal arm, is representing Rickert in the suit.
“A former member of the ‘Best Team in America’ is now suing Bruce Rauner for trying hide information from the public,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “This transparency averse governor can’t even figure out how to lead his own staff, let alone our state.”
