Rauner Drags Feet on Final School Funding Fix, But Quickly Signed Backdoor Vouchers

Chicago, IL – While Bruce Rauner was quick to sign his $75 million backdoor voucher program into law, the failed governor is dragging his feet on legislation that actually finalizes the school funding formula.

In order for the new school funding formula to take effect, technical corrections must be made by signing SB 444 into law. While Rauner managed to sign the backdoor voucher program without delay, SB 444 has been sitting on his desk since November 9.

“Bruce Rauner manufactured a school funding crisis to force a backdoor school voucher program and now continues to play politics instead of implementing the new school funding formula,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “SB 444 should have been signed the day it hit Rauner’s desk, but as usual public schools are being held hostage to to the whims of this failed governor’s deeply misguided priorities.”
