8 Overrides in 21 Minutes: Rauner’s Rapid Fire Rebuke

Chicago, IL – During his tumultuous summer, Bruce Rauner earned the nickname Governor Veto for his insistence on vetoing law after law that would improve the lives of working families.
Yesterday, Rauner’s actions were soundly rejected as bipartisan Illinois legislators voted to override a number of vetoes, some in unanimous fashion. Disapproval of the governor’s agenda was so resounding, the Senate voted to override eight separate vetoes in only 21 minutes — a rapid fire rebuke of this failed governor.
“At a pace of about an override every three minutes, bipartisan state legislators rejected Bruce Rauner’s failed agenda,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh.“Rauner’s summer of crisis and his heavy-handed veto pen are catching up with him as leaders from both parties come together to say enough is enough.”
