Damage Done: Bruce Rauner is Failing Illinois Veterans
Chicago, IL – Bruce Rauner has abandoned Illinois veterans as governor, with some going entirely without care or even dying under his failed leadership.
Construction of a 200-bed veterans home on Chicago’s Northwest side was halted by Rauner at the start of his historic budget crisis, and the “neglected five-story skeleton” has sat unfinished for 29 months. An outbreak of legionnaires' disease at a Quincy veterans home also left 12 dead and 54 sickened in 2015, and new cases surfaced last month involving at least one more death.
“From failing to prevent tragic deaths to halting construction of a vital housing and medical facility, Bruce Rauner continues to fail Illinois veterans,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “Those who risk their lives to protect our country deserve every opportunity to succeed and JB knows we must work together to undo the damage Rauner has done to our veterans.”
