Damage Done: Bruce Rauner’s Understaffed DCFS Under Investigation
Chicago, IL – State lawmakers are investigating the chronic mismanagement of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, a state agency driven to chaos by Bruce Rauner’s failed leadership.
The new investigation follows a report documenting the “toxic” culture at the understaffed agency, leading to the tragic death of toddler Semaj Crosby. Investigators are zeroing in on worker caseload after the report showed Joliet staffers being assigned new abuse and neglect cases far in excess of the 153 per year benchmark set by a federal court consent decree.
“This is what happens when a governor cares more about his special interest agenda than the livelihood of Illinois children and families,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “Rauner’s damage is done and victims of neglect and abuse are suffering because of his failed leadership.”
