Damage Done: Illinois Drowning in Billions of Unpaid Bills
Chicago, IL – A new report shows that Illinois is still drowning in debt after Bruce Rauner's budget crisis with a bill backlog of almost $16 billion.
The report documents state finances in havoc as Rauner’s 736-day crisis tripled the state’s past-due bills. About $5.5 billion of the bills are also subject to a 1 percent-per-month late fee, tacking on an estimated $900 million as the additional price for Rauner's failed leadership.
“Bruce Rauner tripled unpaid bills in just two years under his failed leadership,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “It will take years to undo the damage done by this disastrous excuse for a governor.”
